Instagram Teen Accounts: Top features

Instagram, in a blog post, wrote that Teen Accounts are set to private by default.

This means that they need to approve their
followers and that non-followers cannot view or interact with the content that they post on the platform.

Teen Accounts users can receive messages only from the accounts that they follow or are already connected with.

Instagram says that Teen Accounts are placed under most restrictive content settings by default. These settings restrict their access to sensitive content.

Furthermore, users with Teen Accounts get a notification prompting them to exit the app after 60 minutes of daily usage.

Teen Accounts come with Sleep Mode enabled between 10PM to 7AM. This mutes notifications and DMs overnight.

Teen Accounts also limit tagging or mentions to people users already follow.

Instagram has also enabled its anti-bullying feature, Hidden Words, in Teen Accounts by default.

For the unversed, Hidden Words feature lets users filter out words, phrases, and emojis from comments, message requests and suggested posts.

Instagram Teen Accounts: Supervision features for Parents

Teen Accounts on Instagram also bring a host of supervision tools for parents. These tools lets them monitor their kids’ accounts and make changes to their account settings to ensure their safety.

Instagram says that for kids under 16 years of age, any changes to less restrictive settings will require parental approval.

Parents can also enable supervision features for kids over 16 years of age.

With the new supervision tools, parents can see a list of people their kids have messaged in the past seven days without going through the contents.

Kids will not be able to access Instagram once they reach the daily usage limit set by their parents.
Parents can also restrict Instagram access at specific time in a day or at night.
