Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 announced for mid-range phones with Gen AI, up to 2.3GHz CPU speed: specs, features

This is the first chip in the 6-series to gain Int4 precision.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 4: what’s new

Qualcomm claims 11 percent faster CPU, 29 percent faster GPU, and 12 percent better power efficiency. 

The max CPU speed is slower as the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 clocks 2.3 GHz and 6 Gen 3 hits 2.4 GHz top speed. Even the CPU structure is different: 1+3+4 on the 6 Gen 4 vs 4+4 on the 6 Gen 3.

Other changes and improvements include first-in-6-series Gen AI support (with Int4 optimisation) and Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (upscaling).

Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 specifications

CPU structure: The 6 Gen 4 has a prime core with 2.3 GHz frequency, three performance cores at 2.2 GHz clock speed and four efficiency cores running at 1.8 GHz. These are ARM CPU cores with Kryo branding. 

GPU: You get an Adreno GPU with some of the Snapdragon Elite gaming features like Snapdragon Game Super Resolution 4K upscaling, Adreno HDR for better dynamic range, and Adreno Frame Motion Engine for improved frame rates. 

Memory: The chip features up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM with up to 3,200 MHz frequency and UFS 3.1 storage.

AI: There is Hexagon NPU (neural processing engine) with Int4 precision.

Connectivity: The Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 has Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4 (with LE Audio), USB 3.1, L1+L2+L5 location (NavIC), and 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave; multi-SIM).

Miscellaneous: The repertoire also consists of support for 200MP single-shot photos, Quick Charge 4+ charging, HDR10+, FHD+ @ 144Hz display, Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec, Snapdragon Sound, and aptX support.
